I picked a poor day to take photos of airplanes. It was windy and very overcast. One of those blustery fall days where the wind whips around everything. But I’m watching the big airline jets coming and going and shooting a few.
Then in the distance, I see a small single engine plane and behind it a biplane coming toward us. The biplane looked to be about fifty yards behind the first. Imagine my surprise as they flew closer to see that they were actually side by side. The smaller plane is a Ginn DSA-1 and the larger is a Piper, both built around 1967. They flew in for the Wings and Wheels at the 1940 Air Terminal Museum in Houston. Don’t worry, the smoke was for show only.
As a young boy, I borrowed my parent's Kodak 126 film camera with flash cubes on a field trip to NASA. Needless to say, my pictures did not come out at all like I had hoped. That started me on my photo journey through high school and beyond. I continue to learn as I feed this growing passion for photography of all types. I strive to give my images a sense of realism, but with a slight edge to pull the viewer into the image. All images are Copyright Tim Stanley Photography.
